Classroom ExpectationsMy students are here for the same goal: To learn from each other and grow. At the beginning of the year we create our own Constitution for the classroom. One rule I make mandatory: Respect. We need respect for ourselves, each other, the teacher and our school. I need students to define what respect means to them, and we come up with ways to maintain it throughout the year.
We will be using Primary and Secondary sources, technology and various learning strategies throughout the year to better understand cultures, geography, historical events, and people. Below you will find some more information on my classroom and what you can expect to see and hear when you enter. |

Essential QuestionEach class begins with the Essential Question and Learning Objectives. This is the overarching goal of the lesson for each day. At the end of each class it is the student's duty to answer the question based off of the primary sources, secondary sources, artifacts, and activities from class. For example, when studying the Bill of Rights your essential question could be: In what ways does the Bill of Rights affect your life?
5th Grade ELAThis class incorporates English Language Arts- reading, writing, and grammar.
Each trimester we work on a new piece of writing. Students will complete the following writing assignments: personal narrative, how-to article, and persuasive writing . Reading will follow the Journeys Series and will contain weekly tests and spelling words. Grammar is included in the Voyages writing series. Units in grammar will accompany the writing process. |

Western Hemisphere In this course we study the Geography of: The United States of America, Canada, Greenland, Mexico, Central America and South America 6th Grade Eastern Hemisphere This year we study the Geography and culture of: Europe, Antarctica, Africa, The Middle East, and Asia 7th Grade U.S. History I We cover many topics from Native Americans, to exploration, persecution, colonization, the American Revolution, and the beginnings of the United States of America. 8th Grade U.S. History II Beginning with the disputes and differences between the North and the South, we move into the Civil War and work out way through Reconstruction, the industrial revolution, WWI, the progressive era, the Great Depression, WWII, and the post war years. |
